The Magicode team, led by Claudia Panzeri, recently hosted the first edition of Modular Matters, an exclusive event series dedicated to exploring the significance of modular design. Hosted in collaboration with USM Modular Furniture, our event brought together well-known African architects, interior designers, and other built environment professionals for an insightful discussion on the power and potential of modularity in contemporary spaces.
Anton Siebrits opened the session with an introductory presentation that covered the context, characteristics, and benefits of modular design in architecture and furniture. Our special guest from USM Switzerland, Eric Berchtold, shared expert insights into why modularity matters in modern design. The discussion covered key topics such as the flexibility and adaptability of modular furniture, the role of colour in design, and demonstrated the use of USM’s iconic system in interiors. The session was closed with an exciting demonstration by Tony Masarira of Magicode.
Modular Matters provides a platform for attendees to exchange ideas and gain a deeper understanding of USM’s design philosophy. Stay tuned for details about future events as Magicode and USM continue to foster dialogue and inspiration within the African and Global design community.
